Control of the Gyrover. A single-wheel gyroscopically stabilized robot
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Gyrover is a single wheel gyroscopically stabilized mobile robot developed at Carnegie Mellon University. An internal pendulum serves as a counter weight for a drive motor that causes fore/aft motion, while a tilt-mechanism on a large gyroscope provides a mechanism for lateral actuation. In this paper, we develop a detailed dynamic model for the Gyrover, and use this model in an extended Kalman filter to estimate the complete state. A linearized version of the model is used to develop a state feedback controller. The design methodology is based on a semidefinite programming procedure which optimize the stability region subject to a set of Linear Matrix Inequalities that capture stability and pole placement constraints. Finally, the controller design combined with the extended Kalman filter are verified on the prototype.

Gyroscopically Stabilized Robot: Balance and Tracking
The single wheel, gyroscopically stabilized robot Gyrover, is a dynamically stable but statically unstable, underactuated system. In this paper, based on the dynamic model of the robot, we investigate two classes of nonholonomic constraints associated with the system. Then, based on the backstepping technology, we propose a control law for balance control of Gyrover. Next, through transferring ...

متن کاملDynamic Mobility with Single-Wheel Configuration
This paper presents a novel concept of mobility that provides dynamic stability and rapid locomotion. The concept, called Gyrover, is a single-wheel, gyroscopically stabilized robot that can be considered as a single wheel actuated by a spinning flywheel attached to a two-link manipulator at the wheel bearing and drive motor. The spinning flywheel acts as a gyroscope to stabilize the robot, and...

A 3-Dimensional simulation platform developed as an aid for designing complex mechatronics system is presented in this paper. It uses ADAMS for simulation with animation of the dynamic behavior of the mechanism whose parts are drawn using a 3-D drawing software e.g., SolidWorks. The overall simulation platform integrates the 3-D simulator ADAMS with control design software MATLAB. This integrat...
متن کاملPath Following Controller for Gyroscopically Stabilized Single-Wheeled Robot
Path following controller, designed according to the principle of following a virtual robot, for a gyroscopically stabilized single-wheeled robot (gyrobot) is presented in this paper. Linear and angular velocities of the virtual robot are pre-computed such that it follows the desired path. These velocities also constitute the feed-forward component of the reference velocities for the gyrobot. T...
